What Should I wear for my photo shoot?
BIG news! I have teamed up with Styled by Kimberley, a local personal stylist. When you book a family session with me you will have access to her style guide - Looking your best for your photo session has never been easier!
You will also be able to work directly with her at a discounted rate if you would like a more personal experience choosing outfits for yourself and family. Click Here for more info on the ever so talented Kimberley.
You will want to wear something comfortable. Try to think texture over print, bold prints can look distracting in your photos.
For newborn sessions I will provide the outfits. You will be able to go though all of my options and pick 2 outfits for the session.
Here are a few other photo session prep details and suggestions:
-Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more.”
-Avoid patterns and stripes.
-Avoid logos, as they can be distracting.
-Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best. They complement your skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements.
-Wear minimal jewelry for your portrait. Jewelry that you wear on a daily basis is fine, but I prefer not to have you accessorize and add extra jewelry that you usually wouldn’t wear. If anything, it should be kept simple, and its color should be neutral and non-distracting.
-I recommend against going for a professional tan or tanning outdoors before your session. A fresh tan may look good in person but the camera is more sensitive to skin tones, and your natural color is always more flattering in photographs.
How much time should I schedule for my photo session?
For your newborn session, you should plan to be at the studio for approximately 3 hours. Yes, thats right lol. We are on the babies schedule and sometimes it takes a little time to get baby settled and comfortable in the poses. I promise the time commitment is worth it.
For Family sessions I usually take about an hour. I like to give a big window when we have kids involved so they have time and space to be themselves and have fun during the session.
What type of photographer are you?
My family sessions are fun, fast moving and very candid. There will be a mix of directed and candid photos during the session.
Please keep in mind, kids will be kids and I know how to work with them to make sure you get beautiful and timeless images and they have fun!
What should we bring to the photo shoot?
For Newborn sessions if you have older siblings make sure everyone has been fed before the session. I will have water at the studio for everyone. I prefer you wait to feed baby until you arrive at the studio if possible. If you are pumping its great to bring a bottle with you.
For Family sessions bring snacks and water for the kids and anything you would normally take on a family outing.
Where will the session be held?
Any in studio sessions will be held at my home studio.
I am happy to provide location options for your outdoor family session if you don't have a special place in mind.
